Male and Female Futsal Fives Coming to Leicestershire

Leicestershire and Rutland County FA will be launching both adult male and female FA Futsal Fives leagues this autumn at Brockington College.

The male league has consolidated in the last few years, and the increased number of teams brings in an updated format. The first half of the season will run September to December with two groups, with those who finish in the top half of each group qualifying to the Premier Division and the other half playing in Division one, from January to May. The league runs weekly, starting on Tuesday 16th September with games beginning at 7pm, 8pm and 9pm.

The new female competition will be running every month from Monday 29th October, with games again starting at 7pm, 8pm and 9pm on every last Monday of the month.

Futsal is FIFA’s and UEFA's recognised format of 5-a-side football and in recent years it has been embraced by the Football Association. Futsal is the fastest-growing indoor sport in the world, immensely popular outside of the UK and currently the fastest growing sport in England. The game has paid an important role in the technical development of some of the world's leading footballers including Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Kaka, Xavi and Ronaldinho, who played Futsal as they grew up and developed into world beaters.

Leicestershire has seen a huge increase in futsal participation during the past year, with some teams qualifying for national tournaments at both youth and adult levels. We also have one of the country’s most successful adult set-ups, Loughborough Students Futsal Club, based in the County.
