Leicestershire Representatives Attend The FA Youth Leagues Conference

The third FA Youth Leagues Conference, which took place over the weekend of 22 and 23 April at St George's Park, was attended by representatives from…
The theme of the conference was focused on encouraging leagues to Play Their Part in creating player centred environments, which will contribute towards a growth in participation, particularly within the female game, and ensure more youth players are retained in the game for longer.

John Folwell, The FA Participation Manager (Youth Football), and Nathan French, The FA RESPECT Officer, delivered a session at the start of the conference to focus attention on creating a player centred environment. The session included some consultation with delegates on the youth development review and how this should operate moving forwards. The session also challenged leagues to consider what role they play in creating player centred environments, and provided leagues with four key principles to consider in achieving this; Pre-Match, Enjoyment, Safe & Inclusive and Opportunities.

The main session at the conference also included a safeguarding update, along with some consultation and updates on the rules and regulations that govern the youth game.

In addition, delegates attended four workshops on the following; Doubling Female Participation – The League's Role, Whole Game System – What Next?, Recruiting Young People to help run league and RESPECT – Playing Your Part.

Shaun Waite, Football Development Officer (Participation), said: “The Conference was fantastic. It provided the opportunity to listen, learn and debate ways to move the youth game forwards with passionate volunteers from across the country. The challenge now is to continue to work with our leagues to embed the learning that will positively impact the environment for all youth players in Leicestershire and Rutland.

"We thank all the volunteer representatives from the Leicester & District Mutual League, Leicestershire Foxes League, Leicester City & County Girls League and Leicestershire & Rutland Youth Futsal League, who gave up their weekends to attend the conference, and trust the learning will help them to improve the environment for players in their leagues.”
